What Does The Bible Say on Discipleship & Being Discipled?

Worry doesn’t accomplish anything. Psalm 37:8, TLB. “Stop your anger! Turn off your wrath. Don’t fret and worry -it only leads to harm.”

Being a Christian means being a disciple. But what is a disciple really? Find out by seeing some of the great Christian resources on Christian discipleship training, discipleship advice and videos from the bible and other websites and services offering advice and help on being a great disciple of Christ, and showing how giving up everything for truth and light means gaining everything!

If you are talking about Hillsong and the like – then being a disciple is all about visualising your great future and career on this earth. But we are here to be serious. So I will place my cards on the table and echo The Bible’s words and say that being a disciple has many benefits – but really it boils down to picking up your ‘cross’ so to speak and taking on the sufferings of Christ in this world.

Teaching others the gospel both in word and in actions

This means – and this is hard for some to get their head around – that if you are a genuine Christian disciple – you will suffer persecution in this life. In fact, a pretty good measure of what kind of disciple you are can be gauged by wether you have had to make any sacrifices for being a Christian. I’m not saying we should go looking for trouble – or develop a persecution complex, or bemoan this part of being a disciple, but it’s a plain fact that in this godless world, almost everything is set up against living the godly Christian life.

You will face decisions that will – the question is; do you have the backbone to make the right decision? – the one that Jesus would make.

And remember – sometimes, no action or no comment is a far louder statement and of a person’s stance and which side of things they are on than speaking, or simply going with the worldly flow. The way to deal with this is to get it straight in your head BEFORE these situations arise what side you will come down on. Otherwise I can guarantee that when the pressure hits you will fold.

God bless you in your walk.
