Christian Facebook Style Web Sites. College Networking Facebook Type Site for Christians

Is There a College Networking web site like ‘Facebook’ or website for Christians?

Social Networking sites; what are they and what is Facebook?

Some say dating sites will soon be becoming a thing of the past. Now what are called ‘networking’ sites are the new singles and dating services – since networking and friendships are of course the best way to meet people! The evolution of the ‘friendster’ style website has been amazing to watch. It started at the dawn of the Internet with basic singles services that costa fortune to join and were clunky to use.

Slowly but surely, these sites are more and more becoming free services – choosing to make their cash from selling vast databases, online advertising space and other merchandise to their users.

So much so that many dating services – although they will always have their place – are now seriously competing with social grad network sites and college friend-finder services.

What’s the Facebook site?

Here’s the story of Facebook. I’d never heard of the site to be honest. The front page of the website is so basic it’s not true and gives absolutely no indication of the size of the database it contains. Facebook.com launched its website 2005. The founder being a 21 year old guy by the name of Zuckerberg. Face book is reportedly in a short space of time, the most popular web site to hit the college campus since Napster came along and blew everyone away!

Is Facebook a good site for Christians?

The site is not generally geared towards Christians by any stretch as you would expect. It does contain very candid photos, cheeky profiles, booty shots and all sorts of college mayhem you would expect from any 21-25 year old – Christian or not!:) But unlike most social networks like Friendster and MySpace, it’s exclusively for academia – precisely how students want it. Face book has seven million members from 2100 universities and 22000 high schools. Facebook.com is now the seventh most -trafficked site on the Internet and valued at over 1 billion dollars. Because users use their .edu mail addresses, there’s an inherent built-in pressure to be real – separating it from other sites.
