Can You Lose Your Salvation? No and Yes!

So what’s worse – someone who wants to sit on the fence on this issue or someone who just tells you like they believe it is? Well I think the latter. So therefore – wrong or right I am going to tell you what I think – and YOU must make up your own mind based on your own research and primarily by reading The Bible.

I have never taken the ‘once-saved-always saved’ phrase that gets banded about everywhere seriously. But then what I think does not make it false – or true for that matter.

The trouble is – we Christians always want to put God in a box and tie up our doctrines and beliefs so neatly and tightly we can go on sinning another day without fear of losing our salvation. But does it really have to be one way or the the other? – black and white? Does the infinite God who created electrons that can be in two places at once have to be restricted by the mind of us humans? Is there another simpler – logical and dead easy to understand answer to this that fits with the Bible perfectly? Yes I believe there is.

I asked God to show me the answer to this age old debate and I believe he showed me the answer in a too simple to be true manner which to me makes all the debates look futile and a huge waste of time. Forgive my boldness in that statement. Of course you are perfectly at liberty to say ‘nonsense‘ and of course I may be wrong, but please hear what I say, then make your own mind up.

How You Can’t Lose Your Salvation:

The Bible does not say; “No man can lose his salvation” – it says; “No Man Can Pluck You from God’s Hands.” The latter does not HAVE to mean the former statement is true! For example – if the first statement was true (I believe it isn not), are we right then to conclude that women can lose their salvation just because it says ‘no man can lose his salvation’ ? – No!

I believe the Bible means what it says – that no man can pluck me from my father’s hands, but the sentence does not state what happens if I turn against God! So I believe that you can, according to The Bible, lose your salvation by turning away from God so completely (this is blaspheming against the Holy Spirit that speaks to all of us) and you can dry out so much – that you are no longer any use for anything but for the fire. Not even the living water that is needed for life will revive you as you have become a rock! If you disagree – no problem but please read on and then make up your mind.

How You Can Lose Your Salvation:

Jesus said in His OWN WORDS;

“we must continue in the vine lest we be only good for the fire.”

What did he mean? Granted he may not be saying we will be thrown in the fire – just good for it. However I believe God answered the question about once-saved-always saved with the following analogy. I looked across the room and saw a plant I had been watering and saving it’s ‘life’ many times over. Only this time I had been away a few days and forgotten to water it. The plant had now completely dried out and there was not the smallest patch of green left on it. So no matter how much I now watered it – no revival was possible. The plant had become so dry and hardened that NOTHING I could do would bring it back to life.

Now God goes a step further and says He will harden the hearts of those that turn against him! It may be worth asking here why he would do that if your salvation was inevitable but let’s ignore that for now.

This is why we need to fear the loving but fearsome Lord. The God of the old testament that destroyed those that wilfully turned against him and – the same God that displayed incredible forgiveness for those that repented – even with all their imperfections!

If you turn away from God – his living water and dry out so completely and utterly to the point of no return – that is when your heart has become a stone (not recommended as remember God said he would sometimes haste this hardening of the hearts of those that turn against his goodness!), by taking yourself away from the source of water indefinitely – i.e the vine, so you are only useful for a fire!

However – you Are ALWAYS Redeemable As Long as You Stay in The Vine!

In other words – so long as you still have some ‘green’ (life) in you – i.e you are still facing God and in the vine (connected to him by facing him) – YOU CAN NEVER BE LOST TO ANY MAN!

“Work out your salvation in fear and trembling”

There is no point in making this statement if it is saved or not saved. There is nothing to be worked out!

So what heading means is, that those that really love God and stay near him or at the very least facing his light (the water of life needed to be and stay green) – He will honour your tiniest of efforts to get right by facing him (no ‘work’ involved) and respond by never allow then to dry our completely and lose all their ‘green-ness’. No matter how little residue of green (life) left in you, that is enough to revive an almost dead soul – as displayed beautifully by the plants below. So there is NOTHING TO FEAR if you remain in him! Unless of course YOU turn your back on him. Well that’s not hard is it?!!!

And this IS NOT WORKS SALVATION – I never mentioned works – I said just stay facing Him! Do what JESUS said; “remain in the vine.” We are saved by grace through faith!
