Who Should Christians Be Friends With?

Believe it or not, and unlike the Quran and various other religions and sects – according to the Bible, God frowns more on us being with believers that are living ungodly lives – i.e drinking, fornicating and generally not keeping the other commandments – than it does hanging out and spending time with unbelievers who haven’t heard the truth of the gospel.

I mean seriously who is worst? The unbeliever who lives an ungodly life or the saved Christian who is still taking liberties with God’s commandments? The latter clearly – as judgement will begin at the house of God not for any old reason but because that is fair for those that have heard the good news of Jesus sacrifice for us.

In the Quran for instance muslims are told specifically not to associate with Jews and Christians or any infidels (unbelievers) for that matter unless it is to further the cause of Allah, whereas we as Christians are asked to specifically go to and spend time, befriend, spreading the gospel to unbelievers. True – if we sense someone is throwing Jesus under the bus – we are commanded to move on – in other words, our time here on earth is short so don’t waste it with someone who clearly has no desire to know truth or have a relationship with God when someone else in your path is dying of thirst and desperate for truth and righteousness and willing to hear the call of the shepherd’s voice.

Let’s not forget, that Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour spent time with and was chastised by the scribes and pharisees for being “friends of sinners and tax collectors.”
