the Godly Husband - what the Bible says



What are the basic biblical guidelines for Godly husbands?
A Godly husband's primary responsibility is to love his wife. Ephesians 5:25.
"And you husbands, show the same kind of love to your wives as Christ showed to the Church when He died for her."

Godly Husbands should honour their wives. I Peter 3:7.
"You husbands must be careful of your wives, being thoughtful of their needs and honoring them as the weaker sex. Remember that you and your wife are partners in receiving God's blessings, and if you don't treat her as you should, your prayers will not get ready answers."

Husband are asked to lead their wives in the Bible however this does not mean 'dominate' or treat them as second class citizens. Clearly the man and womens roles and gifts are very different and whilst women are intelectually as inteligent (if not more so) than men - they are quite sensibly encouraged to let the phisically stronger and more single minded man be the head of the household.

Of course there will be shades of greay and instances where roles are reversed. Remember The Bible is Gods guidebook not God's rulebook. He knows whats best for the majority of families and yes we are now reading that 30 years of femenism has backfired and cause dmore problems than it solved. We need to look to The Bible more than ever if we are to be Godly husbands and wives.
