AV (Audio Visual) Chat systems and video chat websites have been around on the Internet for some time on the largest community prtals and company intranets. Chat like many other web based applications can be quite intensive when it comes to server load - ie quite costly to run and maintain in terms of dollars and in terms of man hours, making sure that the system isnt abused by unwanted chatters and web visitors. So until recently they have not been too widspread on the web on standard sites. Also there is the added problem of chat ordinary sites attracting the wrong type of people let alone video chat and the obvious implications that that brings.

However - like everything else that's coming down in proice as the technology moves forward, AVchat sites are being bolted on to more and more networking, singles and dating services as a great fun add-on and you will find, as time and technology move on, that the chat world becomes more and more audio visual.
