The ministry established by Brian and Bobbie Houston, senior pastors of the Hillsong Church

Hillsong church is the brainchild of Senior Pastor Brian Houston's father in the 70's. Started in New Zealand and consisting of a small group of Christians - the church was eventually branded Hillsong and music, being as powerful as it is and what it is largely famous for, was seen as the main route to grow the church out of which has sprung numerous worship leaders and many Christian music albums CDs and DVDs - not to mention a massive congregation.

The church takes - in comparison to tradtional churches - a more low key stance on some of the harder to swallow Christian teachings and concentrates more on self help and being an all-round balanced individual. They are definitely a feel good church - if you want to see what we mean check out some of their events. This approach is said to get people - especially young people back in the pews and it's doing just that.

Obviously there are those that feel that the churches 'lightweight' approach to the Bible leaves a lot to be desired but it has to be said that the church is being attacked on all sides and it may just be the only way these days to entice people back to church. They offer foot-stomping worship tunes and a concert style prasie and worship church meeting - very much like going to a theatre event as opposed to a traditional church meeting.

Hillsong has probably over 30,000 members worldwide and is the fastest growing church around. You need to check out these people yourselves and decide for yourself in light of Biblical teachings if it's the place for you since churches are like people - all different and also, you will need to decide how you think their way of doing things fits in with the Biblical teachings of Christ and of course, not being part of the traditional Church of England or Catholic church, there are many people on both sides of the fence - some saying it's about time we broke out of the mold of traditions and got on with a more modern approach. Be analytical and weigh up everything against what we know of Christ - more so than the Bible itself.
