Presleys produced some of the best music of his career in the 1970's.
Elvis - often dismissed as a worn out, overweight, addicted, badly
dressed no gooder really shows why he ended up with the name "King".
Dave Marsh reckons Elvis Presley created a more impressive body of
work in the 1970s than any other pop act - he was a true pro and meticulous
about his recordings and a really hard worker - more recordings came
from Elvis than any other artist ever! Stripping away all the garish
live recordings and album fillers the cd boxset concentrates on 120ish
songs, the A/B sides of every single Elvis Presley recorded in the
1970s - a group of other studio tracks ((13 previously unreleased
performances) and 27 amazing live tracks (including 13 more unreleased
tracks) that feature a magnificent singer with one of the funkiest
bands ever. This work doesn't match Presley's breakthroughs in the
'50s, nor equal the achievements of Al Green, Neil Young, and Van
Morrison in the '70s, but does stack up against Bob Dylan and the
ex-Beatles in the same period. Presley was a master of phrasing with
his rich voice comes a naturalness. And also in great humour an spontenaety
interacts with his fantastic T.C.B. Band - guitarist James Burton
/drummer Ron Tutt - Presley could out-sing anyone. Have fun with this
one - it's brilliant work by Elvis.
